Finding "The One"

When you know, you know... and Julien certainly knew Shu Ping was "The One" despite only dating for 2.5 months.

How did you meet? Was it love at first sight?

We met at a farewell party, unexpectedly and happily tipsy. Not sure if it was love at first sight but it was definitely “oh hello there… 😉” at first sight.

Do you remember what made you attracted to each other at the beginning?

Julien: Hmmm... Some soju 😂 On a serious note, I was in love with the personality that was displayed by her look and actions.

Shu Ping: I loved his confidence and charm. He just swept me away with his actions like this was the way things were meant to be, no question about it.

How long were you dating before you got engaged?

About 2.5 months until we got engaged! Quite crazy when you think of it.

How did you know she was “The One"?

As days were passing since we met at that party, I remember walking and feeling something special inside. It was something completely different from any feeling I'd ever had before. Usually when you date someone, you experience bright moments like stars in the sky, but with her, the whole sky is lit.

What do you love most about each other?

Julien: Wow, it'll take too long to answer! I love her spontaneity, her creativity, her set of values, her beauty and cuteness, and something else I can't disclose. 😆

Shu Ping: I love his focus and determination. When he sets his mind on something, there’s no stopping him – whether running a 100km race, or making our marriage the best that it can be. I love how he always tries to make my random ideas a reality. Most of all, I love that we’re a team. You feel stronger because you know someone’s always got your back!

How has your relationship changed since having your daughter?

Life pretty much revolves around our daughter now but it has made our relationship stronger. She’s the embodiment of our love, and having her has made us love each other even more. It also forced us to consciously make time for just the two of us to go on a date and connect.

With your busy family life and hectic work schedules, tell us how you keep the flame alive.

50 kisses a day! We haven’t kept it up recently, but we always ensure that we are generous with our affections – whether it’s a simple ‘I love you’ or a text message during the day to check-in on each other, or even just putting toothpaste on each other’s toothbrush (it’s so simple and silly, but we love it!), and giving small surprises for no reason at all. We make opportunities for dates whether it be a lunch or a dinner with just the two of us. It's also about giving attention and care. If she's tired, I let her nap while I take care of our daughter, clean the house and do the grocery shopping (that’s an exaggeration 😆).
